Description
Peili / Mirror is a single-channel video work that uses a traditional children’s game as a metaphor for social power dynamics, intimacy, and the strategies of human connection. The work explores the tension between the “seeker” and the “avoider” – two fundamental behavioral patterns driven by the universal need for acceptance and the fear of abandonment.
In the ritual of the game, the “Mirror” is expected to be honest. However, in real-life social schemes, the temptation to misuse power arises: some are allowed closer than others, regardless of the rules. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the fragile boundaries of trust and the unconscious games we play to protect ourselves while yearning for closeness.
“If you do not take part in the game, you never encounter the other person, and there will only be distance between you.”
Teoskuvaus
Peili / Mirror on yksikanavainen videoteos, jossa perinteinen lastenleikki toimii metaforana sosiaalisille suhteille, vallankäytölle ja läheisyyden kaipuulle. Teos tarkastelee “hakijan” ja “välttelijän” välistä jännitettä – kahta puolustusmekanismia, jotka kumpuavat hylkätyksi tulemisen pelosta ja tarpeesta tulla hyväksytyksi.
Leikin säännöt edellyttävät Peililtä rehellisyyttä, mutta todellisuudessa vallankäyttö ja alitajuiset valinnat astuvat väliin: toisen ihmisen päästää helpommin lähelleen kuin toisen. Teos pohtii luottamuksen särkyvyyttä ja niitä rituaaleja, joita luomme suojellaksemme itseämme ja kohdataksemme toisen.
